Mother Earth Day, which was written as part of PlayGround-LA’s Writer’s Pool for 2019-2020 season, was selected as a top 30 finalist for Samuel French’s 2021 Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival.

In it’s 46th year, The Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival (OOB) is the nation’s leading short play festival. Beyond playwrights, the Festival has given voice to many emerging directors, performers, and production companies. The winning playwrights will be announced to the public Thursday, August 12th.

Mother Earth Day tells the story of an aging and injured black farmer and his two sons who struggle with whether or not to sell their family’s farm land while awaiting news about the upcoming growing year at an annual community harvest ceremony for Mother Earth.

It was also selected as the People’s Choice Award winner for PlayGround-LA’s Monday Night Reading Series for March 2020, featured in the Best of PlayGround-LA Season 8 Gala and the winner of PlayGround-LA’s 2020 New Play Commission.

The play is available to read on New Play Exchange and you can read more about the festival on Playbill. You can also check out Daysha’s interview with Concord Theatricals here.
