INFLUENCER/ENTREPRENEUR

In 2017, while working at BuzzFeed, Daysha had arranged a meeting with an executive to discuss her potential to get a raise. Armed with a robust powerpoint outlining all of her significant contributions to the company in the few years that she had been there, Daysha confidently asserted why she was deserving of her raise.

She had cracked new video formats, delivered mega viral, thought-provoking content, was integral in shaping the black video presence, and had deeply invested in future generations of producers. She independently devised and spearheaded onboarding classes to help new producers better acclimate to the culture. She sat in on interview panels to assist with hiring, and bringing in new voices. And at that point she had mentored 5 women (4 women of color) into full-time producer roles, with each mentee breaking boundaries and creating knockout content in their own right. This raise was not just earned. It was deserved.

But as you can guess how this story ends, she did not leave that meeting with her raise. Instead, she left with a burning passion to be out of the company by the end of the year to found her own YouTube channel and lifestyle brand for women, Yes Queen.

Yes Queen was born out of Daysha’s deep desire to create a new online space that was centered around reaffirming the power, beauty, and strength of the female experience. It was born out of her struggle to ascertain the resources and respect that her work deserved, but that for many years she lacked the confidence to fight for.

So she created a blog for her to share about her struggles and triumphs towards building her self-confidence in various areas in her life. And in the process of sharing her story, she hopes to not only help other women live a life that will make people want to shout “YAAASS QUEEN”, but she also desires to build Yes Queen into one of the leading self-confidence building platforms for women.

Within the next few years, she plans to release digital content, merchandise, e-courses, and more that embody the 4 guiding principles of Yes Queen (Clarity, Control, Confidence, and Choices).
